Term 5

All clubs will start during the First week of Term 5 week commencing Monday 24th April 2017. Term 5 is a short term this year, so we have decided to start the first week back after Easter. Please check and record the dates against your choices of club. Clubs will finish at either 4.15 or 4.30pm (or 5.30pm in the case of Futsal) – please check the table attached for details.

Club Descriptions

Active Fun – Terms 5 and 6

Foundation & KS1 Active Fun Club is energetic and fun filled, encouraging us to be active through fun games and activities. It’s a great opportunity to play all the games we love with our friends, (that we can’t always do in PE) like Mr Crocodile, Fire and Ice, Sharks and Fishes.

Athletics – Term 5

Mr Chand and Mrs Window will be running an athletics club to help children prepare for the Quad Kids events later in Term 6. Quad Kids is a nationally proven athletics concept endorsed and supported by England Athletics. Quad kids is an inclusive team event of 4 girls and 4 boys and includes the four core disciplines of running, throwing, jumping and sprinting - hence 'Quad'. This runs alongside our Speed, Agility, and Quickness club run by Active Melton. The two clubs will complement each other to develop Langham’s budding Athletes.

Chance to Shine Cricket – Terms 5 and 6

The Chance to Shine after school cricket club being run by Leicestershire County Cricket Club, is an opportunity for children to acquire, develop and apply skills in a more cricket specific setting. It also allows children to play with and learn from children from different classes, while having fun through a range of inclusive and stimulating activities.

Cupcake Decorating – Terms 5 and 6

This popular club helps children express their creative side as they decorate cupcakes with Mrs Dowling. Each week there will be a different theme to the cupcakes.

Dance Battles – Term 5

Create your own dance to your favourite song and battle it off with a group of friends. Lip syncing is encouraged! Every week the dance troop will be randomly divided into Team Smith and Team Mian. With a selected song of your choice we will battle it off - but don’t worry everyone is a winner!

Debating Society – Term 5

Politicians spend a large part of their life debating, but what is a debate? What are the rules? Why is debating important? In our brand new debating club Mr Asplin will teach children all about debating in a fun way.

Drama – Terms 5 and 6

Helen O’Grady Drama Club. As well as performing on stage our sessions will help your child: Feel good about themselves, speak and move confidently, meet new friends, improve English language skills, be part of a team, develop excellent performance and theatre skills.

Futsal – Terms 5 and 6

Futsal is a format of five-a-side football that is played extensively throughout the world. The term ‘Futsal’ is an abbreviation of the Portuguese ‘futebol de salão’ which translated literally mean ‘indoor football’. Futsal is played on our astro with a ball which is smaller and heavier than the outdoor football and has a reduced bounce.

Hi-5 Netball – Term 5

Mrs Window will be preparing our children for the up and coming Hi-5 Netball leagues, where we will be competing against other Rutland Primary Schools. Children will learn the rules of Hi-5 Netball, which is the 5-a-side version of the 7-a-side game for 9-11 year olds. It gives every child the chance to experience and enjoy every position, as well as off-court roles. It boosts fitness and adaptability and provides a great social framework for players to strengthen friendships. Kids tell us they love playing it! There will also be opportunities to give Hi-5 a go at lunchtimes during terms 5 and 6.

One for All Cricket – Terms 5 and 6

The programme is suitable for boys and girls who are new to cricket and sport as the sessions are designed to teach the basic skills of the game. Skills learned during the programme:

Batting – hitting a moving ball, Throwing – underarm and overarm, Catching – small and large balls, Bowling – overarm, Running – lots of movement, Teamwork – fun games with friends, Communication – the basics of cricket, Spirit of Cricket – how to respect others

Ospreys and Ornithology– Term 5

Mr Fraser and Mrs Howitt will be working alongside the osprey team at Rutland Water to learn more about the Rutland Ospreys as well as other birds we come across here in the U.K. The club will involve creative crafts, a presentation from Ken Davies, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust alongside practical outdoor sessions here at school. We will also be heading off to Lyndon for the last session of the club to see if we can see the Ospreys in their Natural Habitat.

Speed, Agility, Quickness – Terms 5 and 6

KS2 SAQ is a fun club to develop our speed, agility and quickness by incorporating hurdles and ladders, agility disks, parachutes for resistance, the aerofloor, reactor balls, fun games and loads more equipment into our sessions.

Tennis – Terms 5 and 6

Langham after School Tennis Club is a great way to learn all of the basic shots and get an understanding of match play as well as fun games to develop coordination and speed. This club is linked to Oakham Tennis Club and children will have the opportunity to take their Tennis further after the course. If you wish to do this, just speak to Dan who will point you in the right direction.
